Beijing Normal University

Beijing Normal University was founded in 1902, is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education, is a renowned institution with a focus on teacher education, educational sciences, and basic disciplines in humanities and sciences, and has clearly defined its mission as building a 'comprehensive, research-oriented, teacher education-leading world-class university with Chinese characteristics'.

One of the ten universities designated as key national construction universities during the 7th and 8th Five-Year Plans, it was among the first to be included in Project 211 and the first phase of Project 985. In 2017, it was selected for the list of Class A universities for world-class university construction. In recent years, it has consistently ranked among the top mainland universities in various authoritative university rankings at home and abroad.

Beijing Normal University has strong comprehensive academic strength, ranking among the top ten in the country. Its academic disciplines cover 12 discipline categories except military science, forming a comprehensive disciplinary layout.

In the fourth round of discipline evaluation nationwide, our university has 15 A-level disciplines, among which 6 disciplines reached A+ level, ranking 6th among national universities. A+ disciplines: Education, Psychology, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Geography, Drama and Film Studies.

BNU has 11 disciplines selected as 'Double First-Class' construction disciplines, the selected disciplines are: Education, Psychology, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Mathematics, Geography, Systems Science, Ecology, Environmental Science and Engineering, Drama and Film Studies, Linguistics, and the number of selected disciplines ranks 8th among universities nationwide.

To meet students' selection needs, the school allows students to independently apply for a major change at the end of the first and second academic years. After passing the assessment of the intended department, qualified students can change their major. The school's major change policy has no exit threshold and allows crossing between liberal arts and science categories.

Our university opens up various channels to provide students who are willing with opportunities to independently carry out scientific research training. There are 5 levels of projects open to undergraduate students, including national-level, Beijing municipal-level, university-level, department/faculty-level, and teachers' research projects.

To expand students' international horizons and carry out extensive international exchanges, the school has established 300 university-level and department-level student exchange programs with well-known overseas universities. The forms of exchange and cooperation include: exchange student programs, visiting student programs, dual degree programs, and short-term programs.

Graduates have a high employment rate and a wide range of employment fields, mainly entering research institutions, colleges and universities, government agencies, enterprises and institutions, news and publishing departments, and key middle schools to work.
